The movie was screened several times during the festival, running from May 13 to 24, and has been warmly received. It is a nominee among 20 other films to receive the Caméra d'Or (Golden Camera) award this year.
Alidi believes “Whisper with the Wind” is a film with a humane central theme and it focuses on the opposing nature of death and life. Alidi is currently in Cannes with his film producer Saman Salur.
Alidi’s debut film is about a postman who has traveled throughout the mountainous villages of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, delivering messages for many years. One day, a partisan commander asks him to make a recording of his new-born baby’s first cry.
The postman sets off to find the commander’s village but, while there, learns that all the children in the area, as well as the commander’s pregnant wife, have been evacuated to a far off valley. He sets off to find them.
“Whisper with the Wind” has been picked up for international sales by UMedia.
The cinematographer was Turaj Aslani, the sound recorder was Asgahr Abgun, and the soundtrack was composed by Reza Delpak.
